Mrs. Nan Freeman

Hello My Name Is...

Mrs. Nan Freeman

treble clef

Hi!  My name is Nan Freeman and I teach orchestra at Grandview Middle School.  The orchestra has violins, violas, cellos, and string basses in it.  We learn all kinds of music, how to read music and how to play our instruments well.  Part of my philosophy is that every child can learn and has a great capacity to learn if the information is presented in a clear understandable way.  My goal is to teach students of all ages how to play a string instrument.  That is a skill that they can carry throughout their life as a source of enjoyment in many different ways.  I hope you will enjoy checking out the web pages and learn more about the orchestra class at Grandview Middle School.

About Mrs. Freeman
I began playing cello in the 5th grade at Oakwood Elementary School.  I played cello throughout middle school and high school in the Hickory Public Schools.  At Appalachian State University I majored in music education.  After I graduated I taught privately for 25 years before joining the faculty of Grandview Middle School as the orchestra teacher.  I play violin and cello in orchestras and small ensembles throughout the area and teach private lessons with the Suzuki School of the Arts in Hickory.  I have 3 sons who were all Suzuki students and who all still play their instruments in various capacities as adults.  I have 2 granddaughters who I hope will begin their instrument study soon.   My husband owns Blue Ridge Violins.
